How to pick the right wedding gown

Picking a wedding dress could be one of the hardest choices you make during the process. Essentially your entire day could be designed around your dress.

Are you a modern minimal bride? A boho bride? You want to live it up as a princess?

My best tips for choosing the right dress (speaking from experience):

  1. Know your body type and how to dress is. Think of a time you felt most beautiful, were you in a fitted outfit or loose and able to dance the night away?

  2. Be opening minded! I tried on like 30 dresses before I really let the consultant select one for me to try on… and guess what? It was THE ONE!

  3. Think of your venue and location, those will have an impact on the style of dress you should think of.

  4. Be prepared for dresses! Wear a strapless bra or sticky bra, bring some shoes that you are considering for your big day, and have your hair and makeup done nicely. Don’t roll out of bed and hit the shop.

  5. Don’t take too big of a crowd. Thats way too many opinions. I started with a big group and almost bought a dress that wasn’t THE one. Once it was my mom and sister, I truly was able to hear myself voice what I wanted.

  6. Don’t try anything on over your budget.

  7. Don’t go for trendy, you don’t want to look back at your photos and not love the look anymore. Pick what fits you, your style, your personality.

  8. Make sure you can MOVE! Walk around, try sitting, dance, do your own shoes, make sure you can pee, hug friends and family, etc. This is all stuff you’ll want to be able to do on your wedding day and not being able to sit and eat dinner is the WORST!

  9. Movement in the fabrics will always be more photogenic than a fitted dress. There’s only so many poses you can do with a stiff fabric that doesn’t move or let you move. Make sure you can be free. Also, soft tulle blowing in the wind - DREAMY AF!

  10. Don’t listen to anyone else or feel pressured to buy your dress. This is 100% your decision and no one else’s.
